Filippos Ververidis is a Professor in the Department of Agriculture, School of Agriculture, Food and Nutrition, TEI of Crete. He holds a BSc in Agriculture (1987) from the Department of Agriculture, School of Geotechnical Sciences, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH). In 1991 he received his PhD (in Biochemistry and Horticulture Biotechnology) from the University of Reading, UK, on a Greek State scholarship. He worked as a Postdoctoral Research Scholar at the same university in 1991 and then, from 1993 to 1995, in the Department of Horticulture (Laboratory of Postharvest Physiology & Technology), Michigan State University, USA. Between 1996 and 1998 he was employed as a Postdoctoral Research Scholar in the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (IMBB), Heraklion, Crete, and in the Department of Biology of the University of Crete. Since 1998 he has been a member of the teaching and research staff of the TEI of Crete and Director of the Plant Biochemistry & Biotechnology Laboratory.
He has participated as Coordinator and Principal Investigator of competitive research projects funded by Greek and European sources. He has supervised a large number of postgraduate and doctoral dissertations carried out in his laboratory at the TEI of Crete, in collaboration with the University of Crete, the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and Cranfield University, UK.
His research interests include Biochemistry and Molecular Biology of Natural Products, Metabolic Engineering Methodologies, Microbial and Plant Biotechnology, Molecular Plant Improvement and Molecular Biology with applications in Plant Pathology.
In the Department of Agriculture, he teaches the undergraduate courses Agricultural Chemistry, Seminar – Organisation and Presentation of a Scientific Research Seminar, and Agricultural Biotechnology.
In the Applied Science and Technology in Agriculture Postgraduate Studies Programme, he participates in teaching the postgraduate courses Biotechnological Applications in Agricultural Production, and Special Subjects in Plant Molecular Physiology and Biotechnology.
