Michalis Fountoulakis is a research fellow of the Department of Agriculture, TEI of Crete. He holds an MSc and a PhD in Energy and the Environment from the Department of Chemical Engineering, School of Engineering, University of Patras.
Since 2006 he has been a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Agriculture, TEI of Crete. He has also collaborated on various research projects with the Department of Chemical Engineering, University of Patras; the Department of Environmental Engineering, Technical University of Crete; the Department of Civil Engineering, National Technical University of Athens; and the Institute of Olive Tree, Subtropical Plants and Viticulture of Heraklion.
His research interests include the treatment and use of solid and liquid waste, specifically: energy production from anaerobic digestion of waste, decentralised wastewater treatment systems, the presence of micropollutants in the environment, and wastewater reuse for crop irrigation.
Since 2002 he has published 26 papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals with over 600 citations. In the Department of Agriculture he has taught the undergraduate laboratory courses Treatment and Exploitation of Liquid & Solid Waste, and Agriculture and Energy.
